About the Presenter:
Mr Ali Mearza FRCOphth is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Charing Cross Hospital, part of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust as well as Focus Laser Vision, a private clinic in London.
His specialist interests are Cornea, Cataract & Refractive Surgery. He qualified from Charing Cross & Westminster Medical School, London in 1996 and shortly after began his career in Ophthalmology.
He completed his training in London and went on to complete a years fellowship in cornea & external eye disease at the world renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital. He followed this with an additional one year fellowship in laser refractive eye surgery at the prestigious Emmetropia Mediterranean Eye Institute on the island of Crete, the birthplace of modern LASIK.
He has a keen interest in clinical research and has over 20 peer reviewed publications and over 20 published abstracts to his name and is an invited journal reviewer. He has presented his work at numerous National and International meetings and in addition has been an invited speaker to faculty in London, Greece and Australia.
He also has a keen interest in voluntary ophthalmology and has performed charitable work in India, Bali, Burma, Madagascar, Bangladesh and Ghana.
