About the Presenter:
Arturo Pérez-Arteaga M.D. was born in Mexico City, Mexico in 1964. His Medical School and Residence in Ophthalmology were studied at Mexico at the National University of Mexico (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México). He participated at the International Fellowship Program at the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital, at New York City U.S.A. where he trained in Phacoemulsification during the year of 1992 with Jack Dodick M.D. and Prof. George Panariello.
He went back to Mexico and established his own private practice. He developed the first Unit of Ambulatory Eye Surgery in the State of Mexico in 1993. He has been pioneer in his country at fields like foldable IOL´s, topical anesthesia for cataract surgery, topical anesthesia for glaucoma surgery, multifocal IOL´s, no-stitches cataract surgery, biaxial cataract surgery, micro incision IOL´s, microbiaxial cataract surgery (microphakonit), forced infusion for Phakonit and Microphakonit and biaxial and microbiaxial refractive lens exchange.
He described first time in the world the Internal Forced Infusion for biaxial and microbiaxial lens surgery, the “NIC-Phakonit technique” to avoid the use of irrigating choppers in biaxial cataract surgery and also coined the term “MIRLEX” to describe a refractive lens exchange performed with biaxial and microbiaxial techniques.
He is an enthusiastic participant at international Medical Associations like ASCRS, ESCRS and AAO, where he has served as professor, faculty and Senior Instructor. He has been traveling worldwide teaching and promoting biaxial lens extraction techniques.
He has publications at international magazines like Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Ocular Surgery News and Eurotimes. He is International Editor of the Indian Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He has participated as Author, Co-Author, Editor or Co-Editor in 23 Ophthalmic Books about Cataract Surgery, Refractive Surgery and Ophthalmic Pharmacology.
He is Past- President of the Ophthalmic Society of the State of Mexico and he is currently part of the Directive Board of the Mexican Society of Ophthalmology.
He is Professor of Neurosciences at The National University of Mèxico (Profesor de Asignatura del Mòdulo de Sistema Nervioso; Facultad de Estudios Profesionales Iztacala, Universidad Nacional Autònoma de Mèxico)
He is in private practice at his own Medical & Surgical facilities at Tlalnepantla, Estado de México, leading a group of high volume ophthalmic care.
He lives in Mexico with his family enjoying and participating with his wife in the growing up of three lovely and wonderful kids.
